Galileo — failure to launch two satellites into orbit

Question for written answer P-006407-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Franck Proust (PPE)

The failure on 22 August to launch two Galileo satellites into the correct orbit took European citizens and experts by surprise. It is unfortunate that these two satellites will not after all be able to serve their purpose.

When will the recently established committee of inquiry submit its final conclusions?

It seems to have been established that the problem lay in a fault in the last stage of the launch vehicle.

1. Could the Commission indicate when this equipment was delivered to the European Space Agency?

2. During the preparation and launch phases, did the Agency maintain control over the equipment, or did it contract the work out to a third party?
