Registration of right-hand drive vehicles in Poland

Question for written answer P-008492-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Theresa Griffin (S&D)

As the Commission is aware, there are a number of issues with the registration of right-hand drive vehicles in Poland.

Poland was legally required to accept the registration of right-hand drive vehicles as from 2004 when it became a Member State. Despite a recent ruling by the European Court of Justice in 2014, the Polish Government still does not allow the registration of right-hand drive vehicles in Poland.

In July 2011, Arlene McCarthy, Glenis Willmott and Brian Simpson tabled a question on this issue. The Commission responded that it was still examining the road safety arguments provided by Poland to justify objections to the registration of right-hand drive vehicles and mentioned that a decision should be taken. However, no answer has been given by the Commission.

For the period after 2014, the Commission said that it has requested a timetable from the Polish Government detailing their plans to comply with the judgment. Nothing has yet been put forward by the Commission.

Can the Commission provide specific details on the steps being taken by the Polish Government to move towards compliance and the steps the Commission is taking to monitor these moves and when it is expected that this issue will be resolved?
