Neonicotinoids: review of scientific information

Question for written answer P-011322-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Pascal Arimont (PPE)

In its answer to Written Question E-000284/2015, the Commission stated that the restrictions on the use of the neonicotinoids clothianidin, thiamethoxam and imidacloprid were not limited in time. Nevertheless, a review of new scientific information would be initiated within two years from the date of the entry into force of Regulation (EU) No 485/2013 (i.e. at the end of May 2015). The Commission had therefore asked the European Food Safety Authority (ESFA) to collect new scientific data. Following the collection of new data, the Commission intended to request the Food Safety Authority to evaluate those data. A decision as to whether to revise the restrictions would depend on the outcome of this evaluation.

1. Has this review of new scientific information now produced any findings?

2. If so, what were these findings and what conclusions does the Commission draw from them?

3. If not, when is the review expected to be completed and what deadlines, if any, have been set?
