The European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC)

Question for written answer P-011666-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Neena Gill (S&D)

To strengthen ongoing business relations with India, MEPs advocated for the creation of the European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC), which was set up in 2008. With co-financing from the Preparatory Actions instrument, the EBTC has supported market access for hundreds of EU SMEs, and Parliament’s Delegation for relations with India has been consistently appreciative of ‘its work’, in particular during its visit in March 2015.

However, reports allege that the existence of the EBTC may be under threat in the near future.

1. Could the Commission DG in charge of this file confirm whether or not those allegations are based in truth?

2. Does the Commission intend to present proposals to Parliament to explore how the continuation of services currently covered by the EBTC can be ensured beyond 2017?
