According to a report[1] published on 8 April 2016 in InforMare, an online daily paper for transport companies and transport service users, the regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has decided to provide further support for the construction of intermodal rail services at the port of Trieste. According to the report, the government will allocate EUR 2 million to the port administration for this purpose.

EU legislation lays down strict conditions for the granting of state aid, which must not have the effect of distorting competition in the single market.

1. Is the Commission aware of this project? 2. Does the financial structure of the project comply with EU rules on the granting of state aid and not distort competition in the internal market? 3. What action does the Commission intend to take if it is found to be in violation of EC law?
