Development of a European left-wing extremist database

Question for written answer P-004850-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
David McAllister (PPE)
The G20 summit in Hamburg was overshadowed by dreadful extremes of violence. Many people — not just in Germany — were profoundly shocked by the amount of completely unrestrained, wilful and excessive violence aimed particularly at members of the public. It is clear that left-wing extremists set on violence travelled to Hamburg from all over Europe to take part in the riots.
1. Is the Commission in favour of a new database for extremists from across Europe or better integration of existing databases (Ecris, SIS and Europol)?
2. What solutions is the EU-Lisa agency working on to improve the technical compatibility of existing bodies of data?
3. What further measures might be taken at EU level to prevent a repetition of the events in Hamburg?
