to the Commission
Rule 130
Francesc Gambús (PPE)
Catalan farmers’ representatives met the Commission representative in Barcelona today to discuss the Union's response to market disruptions in fruit prices.
Last December, the European Parliament adopted a report[1] on CAP instruments to reduce price volatility in agricultural markets, in which it made a number of recommendations on crisis prevention and management instruments, including countercyclical measures. The Commission responded[2] by reiterating its rejection of these proposals, although it said it had taken note thereof and was considering various options. In view of the above, will the Commission state:
- •What measures does it envisage to put an end to its ineffective and inefficient response to crises in the European fruit sector each summer season?
- •Is it considering the option of automating the activation of the mechanisms provided for in the CMO Regulation for market emergencies?
- •What economic impact does it feel that postponing decision-making until the post-2020 CAP reform may have on European farmers?
