Explanations of vote

Text tabled : A7-0331/2012

Claude Moraes (S&D), in writing. − I voted for this report because it calls on the Commission to reconsider introducing eight-hour limits to current animal transport legislation. I also voted for the Alternative Motion for Resolution tabled before this report because I am in favour of stronger legislation to protect animals in transport. The AMR sought to remove exemptions for weather, which reduces the effectiveness of the eight-hour limit. However, as this fell, I was happy to support the Wojciechowski report as it calls for a revision of current regulation in relation to the latest scientific evidence and thus represents a positive step forward, whilst protecting the interests of farmers living in outermost regions with a geographical exemption.
