Amelia Andersdotter (Verts/ALE), in writing. − Already in the e-mails we receive from many producers of local beverages as a result of this resolution, it is obvious that it’s very difficult to pin down exactly what is a local, customary or traditional drink. Trying to create abstract values or transaction documents around these-difficult-to-define beverages is unwise, not only because it reduces our ability to learn, be influenced by and share each others’ traditional cultures, but also because it is an economically unsound principle. We want our legal objects to be well-defined, and it seems to me that something so closely connected to a group identity or personal experience cannot be done best when it is put in the form of legal obligation imposed on others. Therefore I’m against the idea of this resolution, which seeks to confine and lock down the cultural freedom of artisans in traditional beverages.
