Claude Moraes (S&D), in writing. − My London constituency, as one of the largest hubs for air traffic in the world, suffers a whole manner of aviation-related pollution. I welcomed and voted for this report, as it gives operators of non-EU flights a chance to properly comply with the requirements of the EU ETS in the event that no agreement is reached in 2013 at the ICAO General Assembly. Making airlines pay for the cost of the pollution they cause is vital in the fight against climate change. However, so is securing an agreement with non-EU countries – as this report does – that allows the EU ETS scheme to have the widest possible influence. This means that, in the new year, any flights entering or leaving the EU will have to comply with our environmental standards.
