Claude Moraes (S&D), in writing. − I was happy to support this report as it recognised the importance of emphasising fairer trade and good governance as vital aspects of any trade agreements between the EU and less economicaly developed countries. The EU can and must promote good governance by means of its trade policy and it should insist on transparency and correct procedures before cooperation is initiated. Only in this way can my London constituents be sure that the taxes they pay towards aid and development really are going towads the poorest and most disadvantaged in these countries. I supported S&D amendments which focused on the need to protect local production and human rights, supported fair trade schemes, and the incorporation of corporate social responsibility clauses on trade agreements signed with the EU.
