Space surveillance and tracking support framework (A7-0030/2014 - Amelia Andersdotter) (vote)
MPphoto

Amelia Andersdotter, rapporteur. - Mr President, I believe that, with the cooperation of our colleagues in the committee, we now have a good base for cooperation between the Member States to set up a tracking programme for space debris. There was wide agreement between the Member States and MEPs that there is an urgent need to protect our communications infrastructure. While the Member States took some convincing to realise that it is better to track space debris than people, we are now looking forward to better cooperation – particularly between the large Member States – in protecting satellites and other objects that we put in space.

I would particularly like to thank my colleagues in Parliament for helping me get this through, also with the help of the Council and the Commission.
