Glenis Willmott (S&D), in writing. -

The European Semester is the first phase of the EU’s annual cycle of economic policy guidance, and this report concerns the Parliament’s priorities for economic policy coordination between Member States in 2014. Labour MEPs voted for this report after our key amendments were accepted, which included more of a focus on delivering jobs and growth, and a recognition of the social impacts of austerity. I was pleased that an amendment I tabled, recognising that EU legislation on working conditions and discrimination is not red tape, but vital to protect workers and to enable disadvantaged groups into the Labour market, was accepted. My colleague Anneliese Dodds was also successful in removing references to private investment being more effective for growth than public investment.
