Parliament's estimates of revenue and expenditure for the financial year 2017 (A8-0131/2016 - Indrek Tarand)

Philippe De Backer (ALDE), in writing. I voted against the resolution on revenue and expenditure for the financial year of 2017 for one very good reason. It lacks transparency with regard to the use of resources. To sum up a few of the problems with regard to this, I follow the comments of Nils Torvalds (ALDE MEP) in the plenary debate, who remarked that: ‘There is no differentiation between investments and current expenditure, there is no detailed information on how extraordinary expenditure is used in reality and no control on how different budget lines are used outside the original intention of the budget (Torvalds, 2016).’ As an MEP to whom transparency towards the EU citizen is of the utmost importance, I believe that my decision to vote against this resolution needs no further explanation.
