Situation in Syria (B8-1089/2016, B8-1090/2016)

Miriam Dalli (S&D), in writing. ‒ The situation in Syria is deteriorating and civilians are being killed and injured daily, especially in Aleppo. The ceasefire negotiated 2 weeks ago between the International Syria Support Group, Russia and United States seems to have collapsed. The US, the UK, France, Germany and Italy condemned the gross violations of international humanitarian law. Today, the prospects for a new ceasefire seem very bleak, especially with the American presidential elections coming up. I am greatly concerned and outraged at the bombings of innocent civilians in Aleppo and the disruption of humanitarian aid deliveries. If no new agreement is negotiated between the US and Russia, the situation in Syria will escalate into further violence, destruction and human suffering. I believe that an immediate cessation of hostilities is needed, and that is why I am completely in favour of this report.
