2016 UN Climate change Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco (COP22) (B8-1043/2016)
Miriam Dalli (S&D), in writing. ‒ Less than a year after the success of COP21, we will in Marrakesh celebrate the world's commitment to climate action. Parliament will push for a solid review while closing loopholes for industries and Member States. In Marrakesh, the European Commission and EU Member States will have to specify their long-term strategies on decarbonising the economy and clarify their financial commitments to reduce the negative effects of climate change. The draft resolution addresses issues such as the urgency to ratify and implement the Paris Agreement, pre-2020 ambition, negotiation points, the role of non-state actors, climate finance and the reduction of non-CO2 emissions among others. I have voted in favour of this resolution because it is imperative that climate change is addressed immediately, particularly for vulnerable regions such as the Mediterranean region.
