Activities of the Committee on Petitions 2015 (debate)

Tim Aker (EFDD). – Madam President, today I’m launching a petition very dear to the hearts my constituents in Thurrock. Four months ago, we and the Nicky Mason Memorial Fund, a military charity in my constituency, went about putting up the Union Flag and St George’s Cross in Thurrock. The response was overwhelming. We had people coming into my office saying the constituency looks brighter; there was civic pride; the streets were cleaner; everybody felt that the borough was going in the right direction.

Then enter the killjoys. The Tory MP, Jackie Doyle-Price, wrote in the local paper that the flags were inappropriate; she attacked them. The Labour Party called our national flag offensive. And let me just remind my constituents, when they attack our flag they attack every single one of us. Join my campaign today, sign my petition. We can turf out those killjoys, those politically correct bigots who would do our country and our community down. We can turf them out. Join us, and together we can turn Thurrock around.
