Anna Maria Corazza Bildt (PPE), in writing. ‒ I voted in favour of the new mechanism to suspend the visa-free regime for third countries in cases of emergencies or abuse of the system. This mechanism will allow a quicker reaction to crises, while ensuring that the suspension would still be used by Member States as a last resort. To ensure democratic legitimacy the European Parliament must be consulted to prolong the suspension after the first period of nine months. Now that the new suspension mechanism has been adopted, I call on the Council to adopt right away a visa-free regime for Ukraine and Georgia, as they already fulfilled all the benchmarks months ago. We need to show that there are no double standards for the people of Ukraine and Georgia. It is about the EU’s credibility!
