Linda McAvan, on behalf of the S&D Group. – Mr President, I think the Commissioner has seen there is a big consensus in this Parliament on the importance of getting the new consensus on development. Commissioner, we will work with you and the Maltese to get an agreement in the timescale you spoke about.

You also said that there are interconnected challenges. Your document is only one part of how the EU must address the SDGs. The internal aspect is very important, and that is why we place emphasis on policy coherence for development in our response to the proposal.

I want to pick one issue here, and that is tax. We want to deliver on the whole Addis Agenda. Yes on the 0.7% aid. Yes on more private sector investment. Yes on making sure more tax revenue is collected. We know that DG DEVCO has a small unit on tax issues, but I wonder how much the wider tax issues of development are understood across the Commission, and how are you working across the whole Commission to get a proper tax policy that will deliver on the SDGs?
