Deterioration of the situation in Eastern Ukraine (debate)
MPphoto

Dariusz Rosati (PPE). – Madam President, the situation in eastern Ukraine continues to be a source of grievous concern. Renewed attacks by Russian regular and proxy troops against the Ukrainian military and civilians in the Avdiivka region have cost many human lives, caused significant material damage and represent yet another blatant violation of the Minsk Agreements. This renewed surge of violence provoked by Russia in a conflict that has killed already about 10 000 people since 2014, and which further continues to destabilise Ukraine, must be decisively addressed by the EU and its leaders. Firstly, Parliament should strongly condemn Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and call on the Russian leaders to immediately stop the attacks. Secondly, we should call on the European Council to prolong the existing sanctions on Russia and to consider their further extension and widening in order to show that there can be no tolerance for aggression for war in Europe.
