Accessibility requirements for products and services (debate)

Tatjana Ždanoka (Verts/ALE). – Mr President, I was the shadow for both the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs’ and the Committee on Petitions’ opinions on Parliament’s report on the Accessibility Act and we worked hard for these opinions. We are very disappointed with the text adopted by the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO).

For us in the Greens-EFA Group there are a number of red lines in this text. First of all, regarding the scope: persons with functional limitations, which includes not only disabled persons, as the scope mentions in IMCO report, but also persons with reduced mobility, older people and people carrying strollers. We also insist on including built environment related to the provision of goods and services.

We also stand for accessibility obligations, also from micro-enterprises. I hope that voting on appropriate amendments will improve the report, otherwise we cannot support it.
