Guidelines for the 2019 budget - Section III (debate)

Indrek Tarand, on behalf of the Verts/ALE Group. – Mr President, as so often happens in the Committee on Budgets, I agree with Mr Deprez – so I could save the next 50 seconds and not say anything – but I will still make four quick points.

I appreciate that the rapporteur has brought to the attention of the Commission and Council the need for a properly managed negotiation process, and I hope this serves as a warning to encourage the full engagement of all parties. We need to do that. I am glad as well that the Youth Employment Initiative, Erasmus, research and climate will lead these future negotiations because it was about time to acknowledge that our climate action goals are falling short and it is about time we engaged decisively to achieve them.

Finally, I am speaking on behalf of my group, but I have a slightly different approach to defence issues. So give us more defence. Otherwise, we will all be killed by some kind of nerve agent.
