Jussi Halla-aho, on behalf of the ECR Group. – Mr President, the ECR Group does not support the idea of a humanitarian visa. The problem is that the asylum system is being abused on a massive scale as a channel of economic migration. The humanitarian visa would only make things worse. It would increase the overall number of applications and, as we have seen, it is very difficult to repatriate even those whose application has been rejected. There are many practical issues. Who exactly would be entitled to a humanitarian visa? How could we ensure that all Member States would apply the same criteria and that there would be no weak links as there are today? How could we prevent holders of humanitarian visas from disappearing in the Schengen area, and so on?
