Max Andersson (Verts/ALE). – Madam President, I would like to talk about the ridiculous conspiracy theory advanced by the corporate lobby, which is that those of us who want a free and open internet are in the pay of – or have been fooled or hoodwinked by – Google and Facebook.

That is just tosh! We have been fighting against the internet giants for years. We have been fighting for data protection. We have been fighting for people’s privacy. We have been fighting against their monopolistic tendencies. I would like to hit Google and Facebook where it hurts. I would like them to pay their taxes. I’m fighting for a digital tax. We’re fighting for strong e-privacy regulation, and we’re fighting for them to take editorial responsibility for what they’re doing.

This is not the right thing to do. I don’t trust Google and Facebook, but I do trust all the experts who say that Articles 11 and 13 are bad for the internet and should not be allowed to cause collateral damage.

(Applause)
