B8-0549/2016

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on reviewing legislation concerning finance and access to home loans to enable young families in the Member States to buy their first homes

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas, according to official data supplied by representative samples of banks in various EU Member States, in 2015 there was a very slight increase, compared to the previous year, in the number of home loans granted to young families for the purchase of property;

B.  whereas, therefore, the data for January-December 2015 show there has been a slight recovery in the market of mortgage loans to families for the purchase of homes;

C.  whereas if the current situation is backed up by new policies on the matter, it could lead to a virtual doubling of the number of negotiations by young European families with a view to buying their first homes and would also boost economic recovery in the construction sector;

1.  Considers it necessary to pay greater attention and be more receptive to this sector, which is a driving force for international economic recovery;

2.  Proposes that action be taken to review the legislation on this matter to the benefit of young European families who wish to buy homes.
