Staff reform

ORAL QUESTION WITH DEBATE O-0019/03
pursuant to Rule 42 of the Rules of Procedure
by Klaus-Heiner Lehne and Malcolm Harbour, on behalf of the PPE-DE Group, Johannes Swoboda and Manuel Medina Ortega, on behalf of the PSE Group, Diana Wallis, on behalf of the ELDR Group, Sylviane Ainardi, on behalf of the GUE/NGL Group
to the Commission

In the decision which it adopted on 19 March 2003 (8456/02 STAT 18 FIN 158 dated 17 March 2003), the Council called for the final package of the reform of the Staff Regulations of Officials of the European Communities to include a change to the pensions scheme and, with that in mind, asked the European Commission to submit a detailed document by April 2003. Since pensions were not included in the Commission proposal, Parliament must be given the opportunity to take a formal decision thereon.

Will the Commission please indicate:

- whether it accepts the Council proposal that a package relating to the pensions scheme should be incorporated into the reform of the Staff Regulations,

- whether it will submit the document requested by the Council within the deadline laid down, and

- whether it intends to submit the said document formally to the European Parliament so that Parliament may deliver an opinion thereon?
