Financing TEN-T

26.4.2005

ORAL QUESTION WITH DEBATE O-0063/05
pursuant to Rule 108 of the Rules of Procedure
by Paolo Costa, on behalf of the Committee on Transport and Tourism
to the Commission

Noting that a significant delay has occurred in implementing the undertakings decided in 1996 by codecision between the Parliament and Council and noting that new needs have arisen since the enlargement of the Union in May 2004 which are covered in Decision No 884/2004/EC[1]1,

  1. can the Commission give the precise reasons that led it to propose a budget of €20.3 billion for the trans-European transport network in the framework of the 2007-2013 Financial Perspective? Will this sum guarantee sufficient Community co-financing for the 30 priority projects in Decision No 884/2004/EC? Is this sum capable of meeting the financial absorption requirements of the aforesaid projects?

  1. On what bases does the Commission intend to distribute this budget, both geographically and over time?

  1. Can the Commission provide an exact definition of the 48 cross-border sections of the 30 priority projects in Decision No 884/2004/EC and guarantee that they will all receive, as a priority, adequate Community cofinancing?
