9. Order of business
CRE

The following spoke: Potito Salatto, who requested Catherine Ashton (High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission) to present a report to Parliament on the situation of Christians in the world. (The President replied that a debate on this subject would be held on Wednesday.)

The following spoke: Nikolaos Chountis (on the basis of Rule 173), who deplored the fact that for the third consecutive time no question to the Council was included in the agenda of this part-session as provided for by Rule 116 of the Rules of Procedure. (The President replied that the Bureau would take a decision on this matter in the light of the Treaty of Lisbon.)

The following spoke: Bernd Posselt, who deplored the fact that Question Time to the Council had already been cancelled, in advance of any decision being taken (The President undertook to raise this matter at the next meeting of the Conference of Presidents, on Thursday.)

The next item was the order of business.

The final draft agenda for the January 2011 sittings (PE 456.147/PDOJ) had been distributed and a number of changes had been proposed (Rule 140):

Monday

A request was made by the Verts/ALE Group for the debate on the situation in Tunisia to be wound up by the tabling of motions for resolutions.

The following spoke: Daniel Cohn-Bendit, on behalf of the Verts/ALE Group, who moved the request, and Francesco Enrico Speroni, on behalf of the EFD Group, against the request.

Parliament rejected the request by electronic vote (87 in favour, 197 against, 22 abstentions).

Tuesday

No changes.

Wednesday

No changes.

Thursday

Debate on cases of breaches of human rights, democracy and the rule of law (Rule 122):

A request was made by the GUE/NGL Group to remove from the agenda the debate on 'Brazil: extradition of Cesare Battisti'.

The following spoke: Rui Tavares, on behalf of the GUE/NGL Group, who moved the request, Mario Mauro, on behalf of the PPE Group, against the request, and Judith Sargentini, in favour of the request.

Parliament rejected the request.
