The minutes of the previous sitting were approved.

George Lyon said that he had wanted to vote for the motion for a resolution on equal pay for male and female workers (2013/2678(RSP)) (B7-0387/2013), on 12 September 2013.


3. Statement by the President

The President made a statement on the abduction in a suburb of Damascus, over two months earlier, of the 2011 Sakharov Prize winner Razan Zeitouneh, her husband and three other Syrian human rights campaigners. He condemned the war crimes and crimes against humanity that had been committed in Syria since the beginning of the civil war and called for the hostages' immediate release. He commented that 8 March 2014 had been International Women's Day and affirmed the European Union's support for the women who were victims of such crimes.


4. Composition of Parliament

Francesca Barracciu had been appointed a member of the Italian Government with effect from 28 February 2014.

Klaus-Heiner Lehne had been appointed a Member of the European Court of Auditors with effect from 1 March 2014.

In accordance with Rule 4(1) and (4), Parliament established that Francesca Barracciu's seat was vacant with effect from 28 February 2014 and Klaus-Heiner Lehne's seat was vacant with effect from 1 March 2014 and informed the national authorities concerned.
