Protection of SCI 5223037 in Oropesa-Benicàssim (Valencian Community)

The Commission’s reply of January 2004 to written question E-3869/03[1] stated that it had opened an investigation into the planned housing complex in the Serra de la Renegà, and its effects on the Oropesa-Benicàssim SCI.  The Commission also said that its request to the Spanish authorities for information had gone unanswered.

 

Does the Commission now have a reply from Spain?  If so, what are the specific contents thereof?

 

Is the Commission in a position to decide whether the building of the chalets and tourist installations planned for the Serra de la Renegà is being planned in keeping with Community legislation on environmental impact assessment, and proper respect for the conservation of the Natura 2000 SCI in question?
