European funding of relocation to the Czech Republic

WRITTEN QUESTION E-1681/07
by Angelika Niebler (PPE‑DE) and Ingo Friedrich (PPE‑DE)
to the Commission

Production at the Jeyes factory based in the German town of Neuburg an der Donau (Upper Bavaria) is due to cease. As a result, 180 people will lose their jobs. Production is to be transferred to the Czech town of Kadaň for financial reasons. The question is whether this relocation is being co‑financed using European funding and, if so, to what extent.

1. Is the Commission aware of this situation?

2. Is it possible that this factory relocation was co‑financed using European funding?

3. Recital 42 of the new Structural Funds Regulation for 2007‑13 ((EC) No 1083/2006[1]) states that in future relocations resulting in substantial job losses should not recive Community funding. Was this rule observed in the above case?

4. If not, what action will the Commission take?
