Harmonised interpretation of the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006

WRITTEN QUESTION E-3572/07
by Johannes Blokland (IND/DEM)
to the Commission

In his answer to my question to the Commission (P‑2121/07), Commissioner Barrot indicated that he favoured a harmonised interpretation of the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006[1], whilst also indicating that he did not intend to actively promote the establishment of such a harmonised interpretation. I understand that the Commission has convened the comitology committee pursuant to Article 24 of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006. According to Commissioner Barrot, the committee is composed of national experts.

1. Is it correct that the Commission has convened the comitology committee pursuant to Article 24 of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006?

2. What outcome is the committee intended to achieve, and within what time frame?

3. To what extent does the committee include members who are also members of CORTE?

4. Is it correct that CORTE, together with the IRU and ETF, is working on formulating proposals for the harmonised interpretation and implementation of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006?

5. How will the committee deal with the results produced by CORTE?
