School violence

WRITTEN QUESTION E-2559/08
by Corina Creţu (PSE)
to the Commission

School violence is one of the sad realities which our society increasingly has to deal with, notably in the new EU Member States. The alarm is, disturbingly often, being raised by specialised studies and by the media concerning the deteriorating atmosphere in schools and the failures of educational policy. Thus, a recent international study carried out by the WHO in 37 countries situates the countries of Eastern Europe, including Romania, at the top of the league table for both cases of violence against schoolchildren and fear of being attacked on the way to school or at school.

What measures are proposed by the Commission with a view to putting an end to the deterioration of safety in schools and fighting back against school violence?
