Evaluation of universities in Member States
18.2.2009
WRITTEN QUESTION E-1263/09
by Emmanouil Angelakas (PPE‑DE)
to the Commission
According to the Bologna Declaration, whose basic purpose is to create a European higher education area by 2010, Member States have undertaken to evaluate their universities’ performance. This is an evaluation of education at universities in each Member State undertaken by external and internal assessors.
In view of the above, will the Commission say:
- 1.What stage has this process reached in each Member State? Does it have any data on how many of our higher education establishments have been assessed per Member State and what conclusions or findings have emerged?
- 2.Some Member States, such as the United Kingdom, have a university rankings league table by faculty, but it is not clear which criteria it is based on and how it relates to equivalent rankings league tables in other Member States. Are these league tables reliable, objective and comparable?
