Commission action to help ‘migration's orphans’

The Commission has submitted a staff working document on ‘Migration & mobility: challenges and opportunities for EU education systems’ (SEC(2008)2173). This document is indeed very well laid out and summarises very well the problems in connection with migration and education.

However, one aspect has been disregarded: the situation of the thousands of European children left behind by parents who go to work in another European country. They are called the ‘migration's orphans’.

What action is being taken to help those children during their school years.
