Turkey's European orientation

WRITTEN QUESTION E-4215/09
by Athanasios Plevris (EFD)
to the Commission

Turkey is a candidate country for EU accession. But, of course, Turkey as a state and a nation, has nothing to do with Europe, since it is a non-European, Asian nation which, as an invader, sought to subjugate Europe. Furthermore, if Turkey were to accede to the European Union, this would trigger a wave of starving Turkish immigrants to European countries. At all events, Turkey is systematically violating the human rights of minorities in Turkey and of its own citizens.

In view of the above, will the Commission say:

How does it consider human rights are being respected in Turkey? Has there been any progress?
