Follow-up question on the proposed new legislation on cross-border electronic transmittal of funds to and from the USA

Question for written answer E-001467/2011
to the Commission
Rule 117
Ernst Strasser (PPE) and Manfred Weber (PPE)

On 4 February 2011 the Commission stated in its answer to our earlier Question E‑010410/201 that a kind of public consultation took place in the USA on this proposed legislation in which the public and any interested party had the opportunity to comment by 29 December 2010.

The Commission also stated that it has regular contacts with its US counterparts through various channels including the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on Money Laundering, of which both the Commission and the United States are members, and that it will consider any opportunity to discuss the proposed legislation with these counterparts.

1. Did the Commission also have the opportunity to take part in the public consultations in the USA before 29 December 2010, and did it in fact do so?

2. Has the Commission already spoken to its US counterparts about the proposed legislation — as mentioned in its answer — and if so, what position did the Commission take in those talks?
