European funding for Roma integration in Europe

Question for written answer E-011709-13
to the Commission
Rule 117
Brice Hortefeux (PPE)

In recent speeches, the Vice-President of the Commission Viviane Reding has indicated that EUR 50 billion were made available to Member States but were not used.

This funding, which comes from Cohesion Policy, European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Social Fund (ESF) funds, is intended to provide more general funding for social integration and inclusion programmes and programmes combating all forms of discrimination.

The Commission is kept informed of the projects financed by these European funds through the operational programmes provided by Member States.

Therefore, could the Commission give us an indication of the portion of national envelopes set aside for Roma integration projects in each Member State for the 2007-2013 period?

Can it tell us whether these projects have produced positive results?

Can it specify the fields of intervention for the most successful projects in terms of Roma integration?
