Falsely registered labour forces in Greece, especially among women

Question for written answer E-012768-13
to the Commission
Rule 117
Angelika Werthmann (ALDE) , Antigoni Papadopoulou (S&D)

During a fact-finding visit of a FEMM (Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality) delegation to Greece last week, it was revealed that a significant number of labour forces are falsely registered, especially among women and young people. This means that women are registered as part-time workers when they actually work full-time. Thereby the employer ‘saves’ on costs, but the employee is seriously disadvantaged in terms of social benefits.

1. Is the Commission aware of this situation?

2. If so, what does the Commission intend to do to combat this?

3. What does the Commission intend to do to encourage the Greek Government to halt this development?

(With the kind request for a detailed answer)
