Reverse gas flow for Ukraine

Question for written answer E-005896-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Monika Flašíková Beňová (S&D)

Strained relations with the Russian Federation have compelled Ukraine to implore neighbouring countries for help in dealing with its gas crisis. The Russian Federation is vying to hang on to its status as Ukraine’s monopoly gas supplier and is turning a deaf ear to calls for an end to the old system in which it calls the shots. Those countries which have agreed to help Ukraine have taken a swipe at the Russian Federation’s privileged position and in doing so are exposing their own citizens to the danger of a hike in gas prices in the future.

What guarantees does the European Commission plan to convey to Member States of the European Union that have provided reverse gas flow for Ukraine if this results in financial loss?
