Amounts owed by the Italian Government to the proprietors, owners or holders of listed buildings

Question for written answer E-007124-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Mario Borghezio (NI)

At the end of 2011, the Italian Government owed EUR 97 263 468.66 in restoration costs to the proprietors, owners or holders of listed buildings.

The accumulated debt is now undoubtedly greater in view of works approved since 2011.

However, under Decree-Law No 95/2012 of August 2012, repayments were frozen up to 31 December 2015 in a bid to contain public expenditure.

An initial amount of EUR 19 million should have been disbursed in 2014, less than one-fifth of the total amount outstanding, however, given that each of those concerned has spent between EUR 200 000 and EUR 300 000 to keep the buildings intact.

Will the Commission investigate the matter and endeavour to bring the Italian Government into line with EU directives, so as to uphold the interests of the individuals affected, who have no effective remedy against such blatant non-compliance?
