Commission's stance on Ukraine's nuclear plans

Question for written answer E-007162-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Udo Voigt (NI)

What is the Commission’s assessment of the stage reached in the nuclear negotiations with Iran? When will all the sanctions imposed by the EU be lifted? What is the justification for the continuing sanctions against Iran when at the same time an association agreement has been signed with Ukraine? This is the question that inevitably arises in view of the fact that Iran has always stressed that its nuclear programme is geared exclusively to civilian use, while the Ukrainian Defence Minister Valeriy Heletey recently indicated that Ukraine may end its non-nuclear status, even though this would be in clear contravention of both the Lisbon Protocol, which Ukraine signed in 1992 and under which Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus are identified as non-nuclear states, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which Ukraine signed in 1994.

What is the Commission’s stance on Ukraine’s plans in this area?
