An official of the Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade recently stated that the EU made considerable concessions in the area of agriculture during its negotiations with Canada over the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

Given the difficulties currently faced by farmers in the EU as a result of the common agricultural policy, we need to know what these concessions were and the impact they will have on the already hard-hit economies of small and medium-scale farms.
