Low-quality transport connection between Croatia and Slovenia

Question for written answer E-008149-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Ivan Jakovčić (ALDE)

Given that Croatia and Slovenia are Member States, and that the Croatian and Slovenian part of the Istrian peninsula is predominantly focused on tourism, it is essential, as a matter of urgency, to address the road profile between the city of Koper and the Kaštel border crossing between the two countries. Every weekend, traffic jams cause queues up to 10 kilometres long, meaning four to six hours of queuing. This is extremely harmful to the competitiveness of Istrian tourism and to cross-border communication. The stretch of road in question represents an obstacle to a quality road connection, as it is the only stretch connecting the Croatian and Slovenian sides of the border that is not a highway.

What will the Commission do to address the low-quality transport connection between Croatia and Slovenia in the area between Koper and the region of Istria?
