Consequences of the Russian embargo on European imports

Question for written answer E-008310-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
José Blanco López (S&D)

In August, in response to the sanctions imposed as a result of the situation in Ukraine, Russia announced its intention to stop importing fruit, vegetables, dairy products, meat and fish from the European Union, US, Canada, Australia and Norway.

The Russian announcement was followed by an announcement by the EU authorities that measures would be taken to compensate the agrifood industry for the heavy losses caused by the Russian embargo.

1. Now that a reasonable amount of time has passed since this aid was announced, can the European Commission provide information on the impact of this aid for the fishing and livestock industries in the EU and, more specifically, in Spain?

2. Which industries in which countries have received this aid, and what amounts have they received?

3. What impact has the Russian embargo had on the dairy industry and how much aid has been granted, and paid, to livestock farmers in the EU and, more specifically, in Spain and Galicia? Has the aid been effective, given the current prices crisis?
