Implementation of readmission agreements

Question for written answer E-010519-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Angel Dzhambazki (ECR)
Under the readmission agreements concluded between the EU and third countries, the EU too, as one of the parties to each agreement, has undertaken to readmit its own citizens at the request of the other party to the agreement.
Many of the countries with which the EU has concluded such agreements have been seriously affected by the growth in the numbers of Islamic fundamentalists. In view of the threat posed by Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism and given that there are many European citizens fighting among the ranks of Islamic State, the EU’s undertaking to readmit its own citizens might be used to send people into the EU with the aim of radicalising the Muslim community there.
In the face of this threat, can the Commission state:
- 1.whether it feels that the clause on readmission into the EU might be used by the countries with which readmission agreements have been concluded to send radicalised people into the EU and thus to undermine the EU’s internal security?
- 2.whether it plans to introduce a mechanism for the monitoring and control of people who are returned to the EU as the consequence of requests being made by the other parties to readmission agreements?
