In May 2013 the Commission published Regulation EU No 485/2013 prohibiting the use in the EU of three pesticides for the treatment of oilseeds because of the risk to bees and other pollinators.

European oilseed growers have expressed concern at possible losses as a result of the ban on the use of neonicotinoid. According to a survey by the French ODA organisation, rapeseed production alone could fall by up to 5% in the immediate future.

In 2014, on the request of oilseed growers, Romania secured two successive waivers under a ministerial decree authorising the marketing of seed impregnated with these substances.

However, beekeepers' representatives are expressing concern at the adverse effect on bees as a result of pollen contaminated by neonicotinoid, resulting in acute intoxication and the massive depopulation of bee colonies.

What measures does the Commission proposed to resolve the problem regarding the use of neonicotinoid?

How can the Commission help offset the losses sustained by both beekeepers and oilseed growers?
