After the dramatic events that left seventeen dead in the heart of Paris, President Jean-Claude Juncker has announced plans to present a new programme to combat terrorism.
This initiative should be encouraged, and the European Parliament should unanimously support the Commission proposals, provided that they are tough, workable and take a long-term approach.
For a war that does not stop at borders can best be waged at EU level. Increasing data sharing, strengthening the role of Frontex, controlling arms trafficking and the very careful monitoring of the Internet are all measures that should be taken to ensure the effective protection of European citizens.
In view of the above, will the Commission provide details of the measures it intends to submit to the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament?
