Rule 130
Ivan Jakovčić (ALDE)
The Physical Plan for the Republic of Croatia and the County of Primorje-Gorski Kotar envisages the construction of an LNG terminal on the island of Krk in the Bay of Kvarner.
Recently, a senior United States official strongly supported the idea of an LNG terminal on the island of Krk because of the excellent characteristics of this location:
- —Deep in the European continent;
- —Close to large markets for gas distribution — in addition to Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, northern Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, etc.;
- —Adequate sea depth for receiving large ships etc.
No European statesman has clearly manifested support for this location to date, hence I pose the following questions to the Commission:
- 1.How strongly is the European Union interested in the construction of an LNG terminal specifically on Krk?
- 2.Does the EU see an LNG terminal on Krk as a strategic investment in the supply of the European gas market by sea, and thus in the reduction of dependency on gas from the East?
- 3.Does the EU intend to enlist the location of Krk as a so-called location of interest to energy in the European Union?
