The legislative package ‘A Connected Continent: Creating a Single Market for Telecommunications’ specified the abolition of ‘roaming’ tariffs within the EU as an essential part of achieving its aims. To this end, the Latvian Presidency has submitted proposals regarding the abolition of these tariffs and reminded us that on 27 November 2014 the European Council reiterated the need to make progress on abolishing them:
- —What are the problems, obstacles or hindrances in reaching a definitive agreement, given that the Member States have stated its importance within this matter?
- —As abolishing roaming tariffs is a priority of the Single Digital Market, what is the Council’s view of the negative consequences of these tariffs for the internal market and the protection of consumers and users?
